Focus on gray energy
The significant contribution of the building sector to Switzerland's greenhouse gas emissions is undisputed in terms of achieving national and global climate targets. As an indicator of the ecological footprint of a building, attention is increasingly being paid to gray energy.
The real estate sector in Switzerland is responsible for around 40 percent of Switzerland's emissions - 16 percent are attributable to emissions from the energy required for the construction and supply chains of building materials. In her final thesis for the MAS CUREM, Sabrina Schenk, Senior Key Account Manager, examined the extent to which gray energy is currently taken into account by institutional real estate owners in total renovations and new buildings and how it can be optimally assessed on the way to net zero emissions in the portfolio.
